Iron Village Preparatory Academy is an innovative microschool scheduled to launch in August 2025. We empower young learners through academic exploration, cultural celebration, and community engagement in a dynamic, student-led, project-based learning environment. Our school features mixed-grade classrooms: Innovators (K-4th grade) and Trailblazers (5th-8th grade).
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Teacher / Curriculum and Development Specialist to join our team. This role will focus on instructional leadership in either our Innovators or Trailblazers classroom while also spearheading curriculum development aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning and our unique, project-based approach. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in curriculum design, a passion for student-led learning, and the ability to foster a nurturing, inclusive classroom culture.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Instruction:
Lead classroom instruction for either the Innovators (K-4th) or Trailblazers (5th-8th) cohort, creating an engaging, inclusive environment.
Adapt and individualize lessons to meet the diverse needs of learners in a mixed-grade setting.
Curriculum Development:
Develop and implement a curriculum that integrates Virginia Standards of Learning with Iron Village Prep’s values of academic exploration, cultural celebration, and community engagement.
Innovate project-based learning experiences that foster critical thinking, creativity, and personal growth.
Align curriculum with Iron Village Prep’s student-led learning model, ensuring seamless reintegration for students who may later transition to other educational settings.
School Development & Leadership:
Serve as a key instructional leader, collaborating with the administrative team to refine school policies, teaching practices, and assessment methods.
Lead and participate in information sessions and meet-and-greet events with prospective families starting in early 2025.
Community Engagement:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with families, fostering a supportive community that prioritizes cultural awareness and academic excellence.
Qualifications
Experience: At least 10 years of teaching experience, ideally with mixed-grade classrooms and a focus on project-based or student-led learning.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Skills:
Strong background in curriculum design and instructional leadership.
Ability to adapt teaching methods to a diverse, mixed-grade group.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Bilingual candidates are highly preferred but not required.
Compensation and Benefits
Competitive salary range of $55,000 - $59,000, contingent upon grant funding.

Key Responsibilities
Classroom Teaching:
Lead daily instruction for either the Innovators (K-4th) or Trailblazers (5th-8th) classroom, cultivating a collaborative, engaging environment.
Implement student-led, project-based learning aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning and Iron Village Prep’s values of academic empowerment and cultural celebration.
Personalize instruction for a mixed-grade cohort, meeting the needs of varied learners.
E2 in the Community Coordination:
Oversee planning, coordination, and implementation of the E2 in the Community programs, including Weekend Workshop and E2 Summer Institute.
Collaborate with community partners to develop enriching programming that aligns with Iron Village Prep’s commitment to accessible, culturally affirming education.
Coordinate program logistics, outreach, and engagement with families and community organizations.
Family and Community Engagement:
Represent Iron Village Prep in information sessions, family meet-and-greets, and community events beginning in early 2025.
Build positive relationships with families, ensuring effective communication and support throughout the school year and E2 program initiatives.
School Development:
Work closely with the administrative team to support Iron Village Prep’s mission and contribute to the ongoing refinement of curriculum and community programs.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience, with a background in mixed-grade, project-based, or student-centered learning environments preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Skills:
Strong organizational and leadership skills, with experience managing educational programs or community initiatives.
Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse, mixed-grade classrooms.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Bilingual candidates are highly preferred but not required.
