Our Why: Centering Children, Community and Change
At Iron Village Preparatory Academy, every program is a window into possibility. We believe children don’t just deserve an education—they deserve an education that shows them who they are, what they can become and how they can shape the world for the better. Through Pathways, our students explore real careers, discovering that their futures aren’t limited by what they’ve seen before, but expanded by what we place in front of them. Meeting firefighters, chefs, artists, entrepreneurs and engineers teaches them that their ideas belong in the world. In OJO (Our Joyful Observation), they experience art as more than pictures—it’s storytelling, culture and vision.
A simple brushstroke can be the beginning of confidence. A sketch can be the start of a dream. Through Unpicky Eaters, they learn that food is history, health and heritage. When a child plants a seed, tastes something new, or hears the story of a farmer, they’re connecting with the land, with nourishment and with each other. And on field trips, the city itself becomes their classroom. Parks, museums and green spaces turn into laboratories for curiosity. Richmond becomes more than a backdrop—it becomes part of their story. This is our why: because every child deserves to be seen, celebrated and challenged in ways that unlock their brilliance. Families, staff, volunteers, donors and community partners—you are what makes this possible.
Together, we are transforming classrooms into launchpads and nurturing innovators, trailblazers, and leaders of tomorrow.
